A long time ago…. the tradition began at Houston Community College. To commemorate Black History Month For the college to see and enjoy. In 2006, a new vision emerged… To hear from national speakers… To applaud local leaders… And create an excitement in the city like nothing else. The journey began with Pulitzer Prize winning Journalist Clarence Page. Followed by acclaimed actor James Earl Jones. The evening was filled with fun, laughter and elegance. In 2008, professor and activist Dr. Cornel West electrified the audience… … Another famous fan dropped by In 2009, award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien charmed everyone. And Spike Lee did the right thing in 2010. In 2011, we witnessed greatness from a legend. In 2012, entertainer and former Miss American Vanessa Williams showed unmatched beauty and grace. In 2013… Terrence Howard electrified the crowd. In 2014… Reverend Al took us all to church. In 2015, former Houston Oiler Spencer Tillman was spectacular. Now… It’s General Charles Bolden’s time to soar. Ten years of memories. Ten years of greatness. Ten years supporting HCC students. It’s been a great ride. Join us for the next decade. The future looks very bright.
